Masters Scholarships Abroad: Fully Funded Options You Can Still Win in 2027
Europe is quietly paying thousands of international students to study. Most applicants never find out because the applications don’t go through one central website.
This is where you gain an advantage.
1. Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters (EU)
This is one of the most respected scholarship routes in the world. You study at two or more universities in different European countries and graduate with a joint or multiple degree.
- What it offers: Tuition and participation costs are covered. Scholarship holders can receive up to €1,400 per month for up to 24 months, plus support for travel, visa and installation.
- Deadlines: Most 2027 programmes accept applications between October 2026 and January 2027, and each programme sets its own date.
- How to apply: There is no single application form. You pick programmes from the official catalogue and apply directly to each consortium.
- The smart move: You can apply to a maximum of three programmes in one year. Use all three. Rewrite your motivation letter for each one.
2. Swedish Institute Scholarship for Global Professionals (Sweden)
Built for people who want to lead change in their home countries.
- What it offers: Tuition is paid directly to your Swedish university, plus a monthly stipend of SEK 12,000 and insurance. It also covers the residence permit fee. The last published cycle also included a travel grant.
- The two-step process:
- Apply for your master’s programme through University Admissions between 16 October 2026 and 15 January 2027.
- Apply for the scholarship itself in a short window in February 2027.
- The catch: You must choose a programme from SI’s official eligible list, and your country must be on the eligibility list. Check both first.
- What they want: Work and leadership experience, two reference letters and a clear motivation statement.
3. DAAD EPOS Scholarships (Germany)
EPOS funds development-related postgraduate courses in Germany for professionals from developing countries, and Ghana is among the countries covered.
- Who it suits: Applicants with at least two years of professional experience and a clear development-focused motivation.
- How it works: Each course sets its own deadline and documents, and you can apply for up to three courses. Check the official DAAD course list for 2027/28 and note which deadlines are still ahead.
- Heads up: Some courses, like the MSc Environmental Governance at Freiburg, have already closed for this cycle. Don’t assume. Check each one.
The pattern to notice
All three reward the same things: clear purpose, relevant experience, and early preparation. None of them rewards perfect grades alone.
Next up: a scholarship that funds the world’s most famous universities, and two government awards that many Africans overlook.
